Berlin, Germany – In honour of the upcoming 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2024) and its festival of events, SYNLawn Berlin has installed 24,000 square meters of premium artificial turf to create a one-of-a-kind destination for football/soccer enthusiasts known as the Fan Zone Brandenburger Tor / Fan Mile. It’s located at Straße des 17. Juni between the iconic Brandenburger Tor/Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column.
Creating a Unique Outdoor Space for Fans with Sustainable Turf
Between June 14 through July 14 (the last game of the Championship), tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the Euro 2024 festival events. The Fan Mile opens to the public on June 17 and will offer locals and visitors from around the world the opportunity to experience a giant playing field and a pop-up park for summer socializing with fellow fans. The unique outdoor space also features the world’s largest football goal in front of the Brandenburg Gate and there will be giant screens set up for public viewing of select EURO 2024 matches. On the non-match days, guests will be treated to evening movie screenings and concerts.
SYNLawn Berlin is very excited about this important collaboration with the event organizer, Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH, to provide a beautiful and comfortable place for fans to gather together. The synthetic surfacing used to create the Fan Mile was developed specifically for this project. Providing sustainable options is important to SYNLawn. Nailer boards of old artificial turf from FormaTurf were used to create the optimum surface and level out the kerbs. Additionally, SYNLawn’s exclusive plant-based EnviroLoc+™ backing system replaces a portion of petroleum-based polymers with biobased polymers created from sustainable resources including soybean oil.
The artificial grass used for the installation is the cleanest and safest available on the market – especially for kids and pets – due to being manufactured with Super Yarn™ technology that provides heat reflective, anti-static, Sanitized® and non-abrasive grass blades. It’s also the safest and most accessible landscaping for people who use wheelchairs or walkers, or who have other mobility issues. The Fan Mile was designed to offer a smooth landscaping surface without any accessibility barriers to better accommodate fans of all abilities.
After the Championship is over, the team in Berlin and Polytan will repurpose the turf by professionally removing it and donating it to organizations and facilities (i.e., youth centers, schools, daycare centers) that will benefit children in the community.
