Celebrating Identity Through Sport Surface Design at St Joseph’s College
In a vibrant transformation of St Joseph’s College’s Year 7 basketball court, Grassports Australia undertook a major refurbishment during the December 2023–January 2024 school holiday period. With a clear brief to reflect the school’s identity, the incorporation of school colours and crest were central to the design.
Driven by a commitment to student voice and cultural representation, the finished court features the striking colours of the Aboriginal flag—red, gold, and black—mirroring both the school’s palette and its inclusive ethos.
Grassports installed 855m² of SYNLawn Coolplay synthetic turf, chosen for its versatility and extensive colour range. This allowed the design team to faithfully interpret the school’s vision, culminating in a full-size basketball court that not only supports physical activity but also stands as a bold statement of unity and pride. A custom-made SignGrass school crest added a premium, personalised finish.
Andrew Dowd, Business Manager at St Joseph’s College, commended the team:
“The Grassports crew were consistently professional and efficient. They went above and beyond, particularly in the way they intricately cut and installed our College crest. The attention to detail ensured the aesthetics were absolutely spot on.”
This project stands as a meaningful example of how sport spaces can reflect and reinforce school culture, identity, and pride.
